Report: To the Council, Regarding potential ally of Marconis

Incident report
5 Blossoming in the Year of Fenin Ro in the Age of Veeshan
At:
Soulfire club
Regarding:
new meeting, Veset, a potential ally of Marconis
From:
Equites Amrunrosse

I attended the Soulfire Club initially as an official Priestess of Bristlebane on the night listed. It seems to have recovered from what hold the Great Prankster had on it, save there was a sentient Billy that wanted a story.

It was after the doll was sent away that a young, rough, androgynous woman joined me, commenting on being called Professor by Euryale. She said the Boss never used that title for me before.

The woman refused to reveal who the Boss was, and I employed a staff member of the Soulfire to assist in this.

Needless to say, I have only suspicion.

However, I did see the woman leave with a fae, and after explaining to the staff why I wanted to know who the Boss was, after some confusion, I found the fae was sibling of a sort to Koural, who is daughter to Ginneve. Also in attendance was Amaury and Vezzexx, a monk and Necromancer in training.

I lead the trio to the clinic listed as Veset's and stayed out of sight. The fae was recovered, though Koural seems to have been bespelled and claimed weakness and exhaustion. I had us retreat, still not learning who the Boss is.

We went back to their stronghold, where I gave some instruction to Vezzexx to attempt to heal Koural. I left before I could ensure she was fine, but the healing was going well.

Before leaving the Soulfire, I left word with Veset that I would await her Boss on Lucan's Mount. I am observing the area, and requesting back up in case it is as I fear.

Preliminary report on ocular mechamagical detection to Vigiles Amicae Council

The lands of Velious have been fraught with altered beasts and plants. In response to that and other interesting phenomena, I have worked with gnomes stranded in the region to produce a set mechamagical field ocular observers. The basic design and function draft will be included on the schematics included. The purpose has been to observe the magical field resonance theorized to surround all things and support their natures.

Initial findings have been intriguing.
As hypothesized, magicka flows through things in accordance with the material of a thing. The field of the coldain is different than the field of velium, for instance.
The surprise came in with the discovery that the state of a thing also influences the field. A mage casting passive spells has a different effect from casting active spells has a different effect from doing nothing magical at all.

The small sampling of tests indicates that there is many similarities, and cataloging them will permit understanding the field theory better. For now, however, the oculars do not permit the wearer to easily distinguish the mundane ground from the air easily, so testing has only stayed in controlled environments.

Note: a fatal flaw was intentionally left in the schematic.
I deemed this appropriate to reduce the risk of intentional interception. Chevanima should be able to decipher it. Let the unit function for one quarter of a mark to ensure it works properly before use.

Roster: Sytan Fiac

~ Vigiles Amicae Service Record ~
~ Available to all sworn Amicae ~

Name: Sytan Fiac
Status: Active, with medical restrictions
Rank, specialty, auxiliary: Legate Auxilus Pax, Necromancer, Sage
Gender: Male
Age: Appears no more than middle-age - or about 300 years old for an elf.
Race: Teir'dal
Birthplace: Unknown
Residence/Citizenship: Most recently registered in Gorowyn

Description and/or portrait:
A light ashen skintone over a thin frame, and perpetually slouched shoulders. His face is etched deep with worry lines and is set in almost a continuous frown. He frequently can be seen walking with a limp. In loose or thin clothing, a set of gnarled, poorly healed scars bisect his sternum and scapula. He can typically be found in dark, somber robes, Except in Maj'Dul. When he is in the desert he frequently adopts the thin and ornamented linens of the local dervin people, though even in these he selects deep jewel tones.
He wears a bone ring on his right pinky finger. The faint smell of sandalwood follows him.
His hair is shoulder length, frequently braided, and seems to lack luster, as if he is not eating well or recovering from illness.

Specialties:
Staff fighting, histories, diplomacy, magical theory, direction of entropic and hematergic magical energies

Proficient:
Unarmed combat, light arms, medium arms, pole arms, staff, terrain, research, magic theory, energy storage, carpentry, needlepoint, diplomacy, field survival.

Weaknesses:
Diplomacy. Walks with a limp, and sometimes needs a cane for balance and support. Vulnerable to all standard physical and magical attacks capable of overcoming the shields and reactive defenses of any average necromancer of middle-rank.

Service Record & Events of Note:
Appears to have been appointed as Legate Pax as far back as the earliest records of the Vigiles. With the exception of the years he was being held by hostile fores, he has served that role continuously ever since. His service record is exemplary: without controversy or challenge, except insofar as he traditionally opposes the Legates Bellum when debating matters of diplomatic significance before the Council.
Widely believed to serve the Praetor as consort, but no official record supports this rumor.

Previous known Aliases: Legate Auxilus Pax Sytan Finn, Diplomat Sytan of Argentum Circuli. Referred to by the Erollissian devotees as Brother Fiac. Hailed by the Ravens as Greyfeather. Known in certain slums as Sidhen Finn.

Records suggest no public positions held before being named Diplomat for Argentum Circuli. Argentum history hotly contested by reputable scholars, as those fragmentary records date from the Age of the Spires many dozens of centuries ago. Likely the record refers instead to an ancestor of the present Fiac.

Campaign: Treasonous Stars - Incident Report

The Vigiles Amicae hereby declares the persona(s) known as:

Folodu Amrunrosse

among other possible aliases, to be anathema.

The wards are locked against her, and no move shall be made to stay the hand that is raised against her, should she rebell against her proper discipline.

It is with sorrow and rage that we report the former Vigiles Captain Amrunrosse was unable to abide by our Writ, and repeatedly expressed contempt for the substance and practice of the same. Despite her years of loyal service and numerous victories, Amrunrosse has made the irrevocable choice to seize control of the Amicae during a time of war, for her own personal gain, and disarm the very writ upon which we all depend.

That the former Captain Amrunrosse has heretofore been employed in the gathering of intelligence and destabilization of evils which would threaten the Amicae is insufficient case for the profligate violations of our writ which have accumulated to her name.

The convened Courts Martial has found Amrunrosse guilty of the following charges:

  • holding a sworn Amicae in bondage without due process of law
  • authorizing the use of deadly force beyond the measure of civilized warfare
  • claiming the mantle of Praetor without proper Council affirmation
  • threatening a faithful healer among the Amicae
  • striking an officer of the Amicae with intent to cause grievous harm
  • imposing her will against an officer of the Amicae outside of the direction of a healer
  • sabotage and vandalism of Amicae holdings
  • fraternization with a superior officer
  • abuse of her power over the soldiers in her charge
  • seeding of dissent and faction rivalry within the Amicae
  • suspension of the rights and laws of the Amicae
  • disbanding the Council which sacred duty is to check the power of the Praetor

We therefore on this Sixth day of Stargazing in the Year of the Triumvirate in the Era of the New Combine, declare Folodu Amrunrosse a traitor to the Amicae and to the Praetor to which she owed her loyalty. If she refuse the sentence of Exile to the far Velious isles as enumerated by the Council and Courts Martial, any hand then be raised against her.

By my will and hand, Praetor Ariahdnia z'equidaii Chath do'Trinae, Hero of Maj Dul
By my will and hand, Legate Bellum Fafnier Brangwyn
By my will and hand, Legate Pax Sytan Fiac

A plain, red-spined book - Apocryphal Journals: Folodu Amrunrosse

Archivist's note:
It is clear from contemporary records that Amrunrosse was fastidious about keeping her journals on her person or otherwise well secured, yet in the recent reorganization of the archive we have found loose signatures tucked among unrelated treatises on the applied arts of entropy as relates to the keeping of vegetable gardens in various climates.
Each is no more than eight pages of vellum, stitched with waxed linen thread and apparently in good condition, aside from having been at some point separated from the rest of its volume. The handwriting appears to be consistent from one entry to the next, though there are huge swaths of the work still missing.
What remains has been bound together in a probable chronology, and wrapper leaves were added around each original signature to hold such notation as is possible. The entries are undated in the original hand, but as many of the incidents are cross-referenced in the public archives, so a loose chronology may be posited.

This entry is unusually brief for the bardic-trained Amrunrosse, and reveals some of the considerable impact her stint in High Command as Acting Praetor had on her own abilities.

It is uncertain what partisan Amrunrosse refers to in this entry, but Lenoire Du'Claire and her consort Kanaemar are confirmed in contemporary records as being deeply involved in the turmoil that surrounded the end of Amrunrosse's tenure as Praetor.

This is one of few indications that come down to us as evidence that the turmoil was not born of chaos, but rather carefully orchestrated to create a path back to leadership for the deposed Hero and Protector of the Amicae. As so little evidence did survive, it has been a matter of much dispute among the chroniclers, but it stands to reason that after the very public manner in which Amrunrosse usurped the position that it would be impossible to reverse peacefully. It must not be forgotten that during her tenure, Amrunrosse enjoyed wide popular support, and that other private communication during that period confirms a deeply rooted mistrust of the deposed Praetor's temporal stability.

Even to this day, there are apologists for the usurpation, who question the trustworthiness and tactical stability of a leader who is so patently secretive about her history, her age, and her sanity. It is widely believed that the Praetor does not punish such treasonous agitation because she is unaware of it: historians who have investigated the history of the Heroes' Quarter in Maj'Dul hotly argue the reverse. No foreigner could have survived the ever-shifting sands of Maj'Dul politics for long - let along risen to a stable and uncontested prominence there - who did not have a canny understanding of political maneuvering and the exigencies of war.

This is a long and twisting path - Sytan is back among us, which is more than timely as I needed an agent who would be able to do the things I cannot. The house will pass back to Ari.

I have given him the information I have been working with, and he has seen my plan within it. Fafnier needs pushed away, as does Ari. If they leave the house under my regime, it can be painted as my poor leadership.

There are only a few ways this can go. I will do everything I can to ensure the House is strong...
that she leads it again.

One vocal supporter has been arranged. In the time I write this, the next has been as well.
I have struck Sin, and Ari comes soon. I had hoped to be more civil in this, but the way things have played out prevents that, now. I would give commendations if I could - Leni and Sin both are going above and beyond the call in the time of need. I will put my faith in them, that they will support Ari as Praetor.

They come. I will give them a good show.
I hope it will be enough...

Council Summons

~ The dispatch is on crisp, heavy linen paper. It is handwritten in the angular letters of the common trade language, and sealed with red wax. The seal has the sign of three swords over flame. ~

The Praetor and Protector of the Amicae
To the people of the Amicae and the Vigiles among them:

Amicae: In the name of your ancestors and the dead generations of soldiers from which you receive your steadfastness, your writ and traditions, your Praetor summons you to the standard of the Vigiles, the ever-watchful. The drum of war is sounded, and the anvil of liberty rings forth.

Having organized and trained the Vigiles in secret and in the open, to guard all Amicae; having perfected discipline and silence; having awaited resolutely the day our liberties could be shown to the world; now the pattern of time has unfolded an opportunity for glory. Supported by the souls of those who laid down in blood, and those who have chosen to return to the bondage of tyrants for the good of coming generations, but relying first on the strength within our own ranks: in the sacred mystery by which one and one and one together carry more than each alone ever could, we strike in full confidence of victory.

We declare now to the world the right of the Amicae to the unfettered pursuit of their destinies, without regard to the petty circumstances of birth or the avarice of gods and mortals. The abysmal usurpation of that right by any creature makes them our enemy, now and hereafter. In every generation there are those who forget the consequence of attempting such invasion: we must never let them forget that the final victory shall ever be ours.

Let this hereby stand as a declaration of resolve, and a summons to the council of war: the shield and spear of the Amicae be raised! Until by our wisdom and our valor we have reclaimed our Lost, the rule of all Amicae shall be held by the Vigiles arm, under the direction of the Praetor, and held in trust for the people until peace return.

May the woven fate guard us, and may no thread fray in cowardice, selfishness, or sadism. In this path, the Vigiles Amicae must by the nine virtues prove again that we have the right and the worth to claim the destiny to which we are called.

In Strength - we meet under the banner of our bond, Solaceday Eight, in the month of Burningsky.

By my will and hand, Ariahdnia Z'Ress

-- Dispatched from the desk of the Legate Commander-General Brangwin

(( OOC note: there will be an in-character council meeting in the Hall, on July 8th, at 2pm CST ))
